Well, I’m not feeling very funny today, but you know who is, Oderus Urungus of GWAR. Check out this video of him reading Goodnight Moon.
In more metal news, longtime grind act, Pig Destroyer have finally added a bassist to their lineup. John Jarvis will make his live debut on Oct. 27th. This is what guitarist Scott Hull had to say:
“Having John come into the band adds the ability to expand musically into new territories that we haven’t explored yet. For many years we haven’t had a bass player or second guitarist because, as JR once put it: ‘mo people, mo problems’. But a band is a living organism. Change is good. New blood. New energy. We’ve had great experiences adding Blake before Phantom Limb and Adam before Book Burner. Both additions to the family have had huge positive impacts on the band. We’d thought about adding a bassist for some time, but it always seemed like it would be more of a hassle than anything else. John has come in like a soldier and has mastered everything we’ve thrown his way. We’re excited for you guys to hear how the older material sounds with an expanded low end and can’t wait to get to work on new material.”
Pig Destroyer fans, are you bummed?
Hold the phone, Billy-Joe Armstrong of Green Day and the amazing Norah Jones are teaming up to release and album of duets together. You may be asking who this benefits…answer, Billy Joe. He doesn’t have a shred of musical credibility anymore (see recent Green Day releases). Norah Jones on the other hand is incredibly talented, so it would be stupid to think that she needs this release as much as Armstrong does. Either way, you can expect at least a semi decent release simply due to the fact that she’s on it, and the Everly Brothers cover of “Long Time Gone” that they have posted isn’t half bad. The collaboration is called Foreverly and it will be available Nov. 25th. Listen below.
Let’s think of hardcore/punk singers who go venture off and put together bands that become terrible when they try to experiment.
Tom DeLonge – went from Blink 182 to saving kids in Angels & Airwaves. Note, you could easily turn around and say ‘Well Brian, Tom started Boxcar Racer, and they were pretty good’. You are right to say so, but Angels & Airwaves is pretty bad. I digress.
Dennis Lyxzen – Refused breaks up, he starts The (International) Noise Conspiracy. One good album, plenty of crappy albums that followed.
You: Wasn’t Lyxzen in 93 Million Miles? I thought they were pretty good
Me: You’re right, they are very good. But do you have an entire week of free time so I can talk to you about how bad T(I)NC is? AC4 sucks too.
Frank Carter - Gallows is at the top of their game, Carter leaves and starts maybe one of the worst bands I have ever heard, Pure Love.
The list goes on. I’m sure there are a ton more that I am forgetting, but you can add Andrew Neufeld of Comeback Kid to that list now. Given that he wasn’t the original singer of CK, he may get some sort of asterick by his name, but he still has maintained the groups following, however I doubt there is one Comeback Kid fan in the entire world that would rather listen to Broadcasting over Turn It Around. Needless to say, Neufeld has another band called Sights & Sounds, with an EP on the horizon entitled The Silver Door. Wanna hear it? listen below.
The Suicidal Tendencies have some tribute clothing being released through OBEY! to commemorate them being a band for 30 years. The video below details everything.
Morrissey’s Autobiography has gone to #1 in the UK and Europe. It is also the fastest selling music memoir in UK history. Those tea & crumpet eating pasties from across the pond sure love their MOZ!
